How to Book PTE Core: Step-by-Step Guide

1
Create or log in to your Pearson account
Go to pearsonpte.com and click Register / Log in. Use a real name that exactly matches your passport or government ID — any mismatch will prevent you from entering the test centre.
2
Select "PTE Core" as your test
From the dashboard, choose PTE Core (not PTE Academic). PTE Core is specifically designed for Canadian immigration (PR, citizenship pathways). PTE Academic is for university admissions and is a different test.
3
Search for a test centre and date
Enter your city or postal code to find nearby test centres. Select a date and time. Popular cities like Toronto and Vancouver fill up fast — check availability 3–6 weeks ahead. If your nearest city is fully booked, check 1–2 cities further away or look for cancellations.
4
Complete payment
Pay the test fee by credit card. The fee is typically CAD $280–310 depending on location. Save your booking confirmation and your Candidate ID. You will need these on test day.
5
Test day preparation
Arrive 30 minutes early. Bring one original, valid government-issued photo ID (passport preferred). No phones, watches, or personal items in the testing room. A locker will be provided. Whiteboard and marker are supplied — no scratch paper.

💡 No Waiting Period for Retakes

Unlike some tests, PTE Core has no mandatory wait between attempts. If you are not happy with your result, you can book again the next day. Most candidates see improvement within 2–3 weeks of targeted practice after a first attempt.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I send my PTE Core scores to IRCC?
Log in to your Pearson account, go to your score report, and use the "Send Score" option. You will need your IRCC application number (for Direct to Department sends) or you can select "Share with IRCC" and follow the prompts. Scores are sent electronically — no paper required.
Can I take PTE Core outside Canada?
Yes. PTE Core is available at 150+ Pearson test centres worldwide — including India, Philippines, UK, UAE, Australia, and many more. Search for centres at pearsonvue.com. The test content and scoring are identical regardless of where you take it.
What ID do I need to bring on test day?
You must bring one original, valid government-issued photo ID. A passport is strongly recommended as it is universally accepted. The name on your ID must exactly match the name on your booking — including middle names and spelling. Expired IDs are not accepted.
How soon can I see my PTE Core results?
Most results are available within 2–5 business days. You will receive an email notification when your scores are ready. Log in to your Pearson account to view and download your score report.
Is there a limit to how many times I can take PTE Core?
There is no official limit on the number of attempts. You can retake as many times as needed. There is no mandatory waiting period between attempts. However, you must pay the full registration fee for each attempt.
What happens if I miss my scheduled test?
If you are a no-show, your entire registration fee is forfeited. Pearson does not offer refunds or transfers for missed appointments. If a genuine emergency occurs (medical, bereavement), contact Pearson customer support as soon as possible with documentation — exceptions are handled on a case-by-case basis.
Can I take notes during PTE Core?
You will be provided a whiteboard and dry-erase marker at the test centre for scratch work during the exam. Personal paper, pens, and electronic devices are not allowed in the testing room. The whiteboard must be returned at the end of the test.
