You complete a short passage by choosing, for each gap, the word from the list that fits the blank. The bank holds more words than there are gaps, so some fit nowhere.
Pearson's Score Guide lists two fill-in-the-blanks tasks in Part 2 Reading. This page is Reading: Fill in the Blanks — the word-bank version, 4–5 items per test, scored on Reading only. Reading & Writing: Fill in the Blanks, the drop-down version, appears 5–6 times and also feeds Writing. Reading is one section: 27–37 minutes for five question types.
Pearson marks it with partial credit: one point for each correctly completed blank, zero for a blank that is wrong or empty, minimum score 0. Nothing is deducted, so an attempted blank can only help.

IRCC's published table maps a Reading score of 60–68 to CLB 7, 69–77 to CLB 8, 78–87 to CLB 9 and 88 or above to CLB 10 or higher.
